Residential remodelling, renovation, extension and garage
Construction
The project out Southbrook entails the extension and remodelling of an existing vernacular stone dwelling, that has been subject to a number of previous extensions and alterations within its lifetime.
As a family home, the architectural response to the site, the existing dwelling and the design brief was initially a process of understanding which spaces are necessary to define the ‘heart of the home’ and then to locate them in such a way that they worked properly to establish a centre of gravity for day-to-day family life in the property.
The two new contemporary designed elements, in the form of an extension and a garage, then work together to provide the necessary spatial accommodation, focus attention on the formal massing of the existing dwelling and to reinforce a sense of arrival at the house.
